The spinning termite mound

Emas National Park. Cerrado, tropical savanna region. Goias, Brazil

The natural phenomenon of bioluminescense (the emission of light by a living organism) as seen in the stunning luminous beetle larvae within the termite mound.

Twenty-four hours non stop were spent to capture this (80sec) animation using still images that include: the changing cloud formations, birdlife, flying ants, the setting sun, lightning strikes,  moonrise,  planet Jupiter, numerous stars, the Milky way and passing meteorite’s amongst the continuous changing colours of the night sky.
